ActivitiesThe Church membership and congregation hold regular social events in the community halls on the premises and elsewhere and these are open to anyone to attend. There are usually two evening parties in each year, one in early January to celebrate the New Year and one at Harvest. The evenings include party games, quizzes, team competitions and music and dance. Everyone brings and shares food and usually there is more than enough to go around. In addition the Church has held flower festivals where produce and floral displays are combined with refreshments and fellowship to raise funds for Church benevolence and specific projects. There have been open days where all of the groups who use the Worship Centre or Halls have come together to let others know of their activities and to encourage each other. The Church family has also been on local countryside walks, picnics, open air parties and coach visits to Christmas lights or the pantomime. There has also been overseas coach holidays arranged among the congregation. |
Christian CalendarThroughout every year there are Christian events to witness the pivotal occasions from the Christian story and in common with many other Churches, on the appropriate dates of the Christian calendar, our Sunday Worship services celebrate these events in a variety of ways.During Lent our Church uses a Lenten Cross to remind us of Christ's suffering for us all. The cross is made from the stripped trunk of the Church's christmas tree. For dates of the Christian Calendar that we follow in the Church Year click here In addition our service plan is available in printed form at the Church.
Church Office & Prayer SurgeryOur Minister, Rev Lyn Houghton, is available in the Church Office at regular times each week for anyone with enquiries, problems, prayer requests, or just in need of a chat.
Weekly office open times will be:
Wednesday Mornings 10:30 am to 12:00 noon The Church Office & Prayer Surgery is open to help not only Church regulars but those for whom Church is not a part of their lives. Everyone sometimes needs a listening ear and perhaps someone to pray for them. This opportunity to pop in and meet with Rev Lyn is to help make it clear that we are not just open on Sundays, we serve the community all week, in fact all year, too.
Secular EventsThe Church Worship Centre and activity halls are also frequently used for a wide variety of events and performances as the individual halls or the whole building are let for the use of Christian and appropriate secular groups as a venue that is of service to the wider community. The Worship Centre is one of the larger public rooms in Matlock and can seat over 250 people. Please see the Facilities & Location section of the web site for details. Every visitor to our Church is made welcome for whatever reason they may come and our constant prayer is for all people to learn to love and follow Jesus. If coming to events held in our Church helps this, then we are blessed.
All of the regular events held in the Church take place in the lower Halls of the Church premises and most are led by Christian volunteers who are members of the Church family. Past PerformancesThe type of events that have occurred in the Worship Centre in recent years has included performances by musicians, singers, brass bands, orchestras, choirs, drama groups, operatic groups and visiting performers from overseas have included male voice choirs and traditional dance troups. Some of those who have performed at the Church include:
